Well here we are.  A new build has been leaked which means it is time to write up a new guide!  There are some changes in this build which will be outlined as well as new tweaks.  So let’s get to it!

Longhorn System Requirements

·        600 MHz Processor or higher recommended

·        256 MB RAM or higher

·        At least 3 GB free hard disk space

Changes over Build 4008

·        New welcome screen design

·        Boot screen now says Longhorn

·        Setup has been somewhat improved

·        Better Domain login handling with the welcome screen

·        Explorer revised (Now requires new taskbar when using the sidebar)

·        New sidebar tiles included (WMP Tile still not working)

Setup Questions

Q: Why won’t my CD boot to perform a clean install?

A: The original ISO released had truncated files that prevented the CD from booting.  WiNBETA have released a patch for this.  You can grab it here.

Q: Why does setup ask very few questions?

A: Microsoft has just recently (in build 4008) implemented the Win PE install routine.  As they improve this system, the traditional setup questions will return.

The Explorer Bug

There is a bug with explorer where it will sometimes leak and eat up close to 100 MB of ram.  Sometimes it fixes itself but in the event it doesn’t here’s how to fix it:

·        Download THIS.  It is a utility which will restart explorer with the click of a shortcut.  Follow the directions in the readme.  Thanks to Nighthawk for this!
